Is Volkswagen the next big manufacturer to be hit by the stalling market climate? We know that as a whole, the commercial vehicles / used vans business sector has been hit by the financial demise but it is being reported that Volkswagen may be due to experience slower growth for 2008 than compared to 2007. Although their commercial vehicles section of the business is still expected to grow (not go backwards like many others are being forced to do) it is the level of growth that will decrease.
Follow up:
It could be argued though that the so called “slower growth” is not actually a reflection of lower sales etc but merely lower figures compared to last year when it was one of the better times for production and sales. It could be argued then that comparing this years’ current van sales etc is not a fair comparison to 2007. It was in 2007 that the Volkswagen's commercial vehicles section of the business generated 9.3 billion Euros worth of business. It is still expected that over 500,000 vehicle units will still be sold this year. Not a bad return in my opinion.
